James A. Hooker

James passed away suddenly at the age of 53.

Sadly missed by his wife Teresa, sisters Fran and Lorraine, his children James, Amy and Devan, nieces and nephews Chris, Craig, James and Misty as well as many relatives and friends. He is predeceased by his parents Jan and Jenny Hooker.

James was a Royal Canadian Navy veteran, and an Ordinary member of Branch 6 for 26 years.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Branch on Saturday, January 21 at 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke foundation.

Richard Halvdan Edwardsen

It is with great sorrow that the family of Richard Edwardsen announce his passing at Surrey Memorial hospital after a brief stay. He leaves behind his wife of 49 years Donna, daughters Peri and Dione, grandchildren Chris and Abbey, sisters Rosemarie (Ernie) and Tonee, brother Harold as well as numerous nephews, nieces and friends.

Richard was an Affiliate Voting member of Branch 6.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the BC Cancer Foundation in Richard’s memory would be appreciated by the family.

William J. Brown

William J. Brown passed away on December 31, 2011.

He was a World War II veteran, and an Ordinary member of Branch 6 for 35 years.

Douglas Langton

Doug was born in Winnipeg in 1923. He joined the army when he was 16 and served with The Loyal Edmonton Regiment and later the Signal Corps in Africa, Sicily, Italy, Germany, and France during World War II. He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, the Italian Star, the France-Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and the Victory Medal.

After the war Doug returned to Winnipeg. He found that work opportunities were scarce, and worked at odd jobs for two years before re-enlisting for another 7 years. He then worked with his father in War Assets, and married when he was discharged a second time.

In 1955 he moved to the Lower Mainland to be near his wife’s family. Doug worked for Dominion Glass for 10 years and Ottman Properties for 3 years, and then managed Dogwood Trailer Park for 5 years.

For the next 9 years Doug and his wife travelled around Canada and the USA in a large motor home.

Doug was a member of the Cloverdale Legion for 38 years. He was Sergeant at Arms for several years.

Doug was predeceased by his parents, Jesse and Charles and daughter Jody in 2002. He is survived by five children, Russelle (Rick) Everett, Charles (Joyce) Langton, Cheslyn Ogier, Guy Langton and Terri Langton, sisters Beverly Eriksrud and Nola Wiwisonky, special friend Dollie, 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends.

A memorial service will be held at the Branch on January 11 at 1:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SPCA.

Roger Allen

Born December 17, 1927 in Cloverdale, Roger passed away on November 26. He is predeceased by his wife Blanche Allen, his daughter Louise Allen, and grandson Shawn Godin. He will be sadly missed and forever loved by his children: Terry (Donna) Allen, Kathy (Mark) Godin, Garry (Dorothy) Allen, Jim (Toni) Allen and Lynn Bolt. Also his sixteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

A World War II veteran, he was a Cloverdale Legion member for 55 years.

There will be a memorial service in our auditorium on Friday, December 9 at 1:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Muscular Dystrophy Association or Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Ken Sands

Ken Sands was an Ordinary Member, and a Veteran from the Canadian Air Force. He was a Legion member for 35 years.

Nicholas Shapka

Mr. Shapka was a World War II veteran and was an Ordinary member of our Branch for 41 years.

He was predeceased by his wife Sybil Blanche Shapka in February of this year.

His funeral and memorial service will be in Kamloops on October 15 at Schoening Funeral Place, 513 Seymour, Kamloops starting at 1:00 pm.

Grant Murray Cummings

It is with profound sadness we say goodbye to Grant, son of the late Percy and Marjorie (nee Whyte) of Calgary. He passed at the Peace Arch Hospital, White Rock, BC, after a recent diagnosis of cancer.

Grant will be deeply missed by his wife, Darlene, his daughters Lesley and Allison Halseth (Craig), and his first granddaughter Elizabeth. He is also survived by his brother Dale (Lynne), nephew Mark, niece Michelle and their families. He will be remembered by his stepsons Brent Larmet, Devin Larmet (Frances), and step granddaughter Kira. Grant also leaves behind an extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

After 35 years as an air traffic controller, Grant retired in 2006. He became an avid curler and in the off season enjoyed playing golf. Grant and Darlene were a devoted dance couple and she will forever miss her wonderful dance partner.

Grant was an Affiliate Voting member of Branch 6.

As per his wishes there was no formal service. A family gathering in celebration of his life was held at his home on September 5.

Berwyn E. Jarvis

Mr. Jarvis passed away on August 26 at the age of 85. He was a World War II veteran, and a Legion member for 38 years.

His memorial service will be held on September 1 at 1:00 pm at the Club House at 15020 – 66A Avenue, Surrey.

Albert (Ab) Stanley Powroznik

Albert (Ab) Stanley passed away peacefully on August 25, 2011 at the age of 74 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 52 years Phyllis.

He was our Associate Member for 20 years. His funeral and memorial service have been done by the family.
